How Technoton products help to reduce fleet costs. Short review of 3 projects

During 20 years our company is developing and manufacturing hardware and devices for vehicle tracking and fuel monitoring, advanced machinery telematics. Products and solutions by Technoton provide remote monitoring of operating parameters of agricultural vehicles, diesel trains and river boats, municipal vehicles, diesel generators and other stationary units and cisterns.

Major parameters monitored are: fuel consumption, fuel volume and fuel temperature in a tank, time and engine operation mode, axle load, operation of attached equipment and auxiliary.

In this article, you can explore how Technoton products provide a dramatic reduction of fleet costs, prevention of fuel theft and increase of vehicle fleet efficiency.

1) 20-30% decrease in fuel consumption of tractors

Fuel consumption monitoring of river vessels

“Mir” agricultural company decided to implement high accurate fuel consumption monitoring on tractors, that work in severe machinery operation conditions. At the same time, vehicles moved across a limited area, so the solution was to be as affordable as possible.

Technoton suggested installing of autonomous DFM fuel flow meters. It allows implementing of effective fuel monitoring system without installation of vehicle tracking device and paying a subscription fee for telematics service. DFM 100B single-chamber fuel counters were mounted on MTZ-80 tractors, DFM 250B single-chamber counters – on John Deere 8310R tractors. DFM fuel consumption counters were mounted directly into fuel supply and return lines of diesel engine and measure real fuel consumption.

After installation, fuel economy reached 20-30 % (depending on model and technical condition of engine). It took 2 months to return the costs of purchasing and installation of flow meters.

2) Consumption of fuel by vessel reduced by 50%

Fuel control of river vessels

Transmet company has several directions of operation, and one of them is transportation of goods by river. The owner of vessel fleet reached out for our help in implementation of telematics system, which allows detection of real fuel consumption. Before it, used fuel was accounted using calculation method – ship crew filled in trip statements taking into account approved fuel consumption quotas. But fleet owner considered those quotas were too high and ship’s crew was tricking.

“Kriushi” dry-cargo vessel became the first to be equipped with the fuel monitoring system. Technoton installed on a vessel a fuel monitoring system that provides accurate information on instant and total fuel consumption, operation modes (engine speed, temperature) of each engine in real-time.

On “Kriushi” vessel DFM CCAN fuel flow meters and a tracking device with CAN input were mounted. All devices work within S6 Telematics interface – the most practical, simple and reliable solution for fuel consumption monitoring of vessel with several diesel engines.

It was revealed, that average total fuel consumption is about 100 L per hour, that means, is two times lower than regulatory documentation states. Total costs for purchasing and mounting fuel monitoring system paid off twice during the first trip of the vessel.

3) 60% costs reduction for cargo transportation insurance

Fuel control in truck tankers

A company from North Africa, which refines crude oil to petroleum products, and delivers products to fuel stations and fuel storage units of road builder has a fleet of tanker trucks, that contains 1000 MAN, Mercedes-Benz and FAW cars. In the same compartment of tanker truck’s cistern, different fuel types can be transported depending on the day: diesel, gasoline, kerosene.

The main goal of the project – to exclude illegal fuel draining and replacement of fuel with cheaper liquids in a cistern. To make it real DUT-E 2Bio fuel sensors were installed in compartments of each cistern of truck tankers. Differential fuel level sensors with third measuring electrode detect fuel types by predefined pattern, measure fuel level and volume in each compartment of cistern, and send alarms on fuel drain/change. Adjustment of DUT-E 2Bio probe length took a few minutes during the installation of sensors. All devices together with Helios Advance tracker are united in a single network with power supply and configuration of hardware from one point.

Impressive results were achieved: cargo transportation insurance decreased by 60%, fuel drain volume declined by more than 2 times, and also illegal fuel change was excluded.
